Overview

With a 7.7 percent economic contraction in 2020, Latin America and the Caribbean has been hit harder by the coronavirus pandemic than any other region in terms of public health and economic development, according to ECLAC.

In one of his first public forums of the year, Inter-American Development Bank President Mauricio Claver-Carone will discuss his ambitious agenda to forge closer collaboration with the private sector to advance Latin America and the Caribbean’s recovery from COVID-19 and enable sustainable economic and social development. He will share insights on the Bank’s plan to boost support for integration and nearshoring, small and medium enterprises, and public-private partnerships as key drivers of growth and development, including through the IDB Group’s private-sector arm, IDB Invest.

Claver-Carone will also touch on the vaccine rollout in the region and the important role that the IDB is playing in this crucial effort.  He will share his views on the challenges—and key opportunities—for Latin America and the Caribbean in 2021 and years to come.

With this conversation, Council of the Americas launches the 2021 COA Symposium and BRAVO Virtual Series: The Acceleration of Business & Transformation. Building upon its 26-year tradition, Council of the Americas will continue to provide access to leadership and promote collaboration among industry and social leaders, at a time when it’s more necessary than ever.

The program will be livestreamed on this page.
